Ironman 70.3 results in St. Pölten

May 28th, 2013

Cold conditions forced a cancel on the swim at this year’s Ironman 70.3 in St. Pölten, turning the race into a bike/run duathlon, giving Belgium’s Bart Aernouts a chance to avenge his close up runner-up finish in Mallorca a few weeks ago.

This year’s Ironman 70.3 results are out with Aernouts and Hütthaler taking victory in St. Pölten. Cold conditions cancelled the swim giving Aernouts an advantage. Aernouts and Andy Böcherer from Germany rode away from the rest of the pack and maintained their dominance for the duration of the run to finish first and second. Eneko Llanos, winner of the Ironman Asia-Pacific held in Melbourne came in third.

Lisa Hütthaler also took a win making it a two in a row victory in her home country. The women’s race saw Hütthaler and Yvonne van Vlerken ride ahead of the rest. Van Vlerken lead the first half of the race, but was passed by Hütthaler before the 15km mark, and in the last few metres of the race by Eva Nyström from Sweden.
